2023 Contest

National Contest

We are proud to announce our Spring 2023 Sand Hills National Literary Contest!

The best of poetry and prose will be selected by judges Ashley Jones and Latria Graham.

The winner in each category will be published in Issue 47 of Sand Hills and receive a $250 prize!

AU Student Contest

This is only available to Augusta University students.

Augusta University students submit normally to AU Students submission options (prose, poetry, and art). Every student submitter will be entered into the student contest.

One written piece (prose or poetry) and one visual art piece will be selected by Sand Hills staff to win a $200 prize each and will be published in Issue 47 of Sand Hills! 

Those who do not win still have a chance to be published in the magazine.

2023 Judges

Latria Graham

is an author, editor, and cultural critic based in South Carolina. Her work has appeared in The Atlantic, Outside Magazine, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Garden & Gun Magazine, ESPN, and more. 

Ashley Jones

is a poet and Creative Writing instructor at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. She’s also the first black Poet Laureate of Alabama as well as an award-winning author of Magic City Gospel and Reparations Now
